RATIFICATION OF REASSIGNMENT OF STUDENTS TO SCHOOLS

8. RATIFICATION OF REASSIGNMENT OF STUDENTS TO SCHOOLS

Description
Reassignment of students to schools within the county have been approved by the administration or recommended by the Student Reassignment Appeal Board, in accordance with policies of the School Board.  They are presented for formal ratification.

Recommendation
That the reassignment of students to schools be ratified as presented.
AGREEMENTS/CONTRACTS

9. APPROVAL OF RENEWAL OF CONTRACT BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA, AND VOSS ASSOCIATES

Description

The School Board shall contract with Voss and Associates for communication services and staff training/School Board.



Recommendation

That the Board approve the renewal of the contract between the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, and Voss and Associates.

10. APPROVAL OF CONTRACT FOR PHYSICAL THERAPY SERVICES BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA, AND MARIA SWEENEY

Description
Ms. Sweeney will be providing physical therapy services at Oak Park school for the 2007 school year.  Due to the high demand of Ms. Sweeney's services, her contracted amount will exceed the $25,000 amount requiring School Board approval.      

Recommendation
That the contract for physical therapy services between the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, and Maria Sweeney in the amount of $34,440, be approved as presented.   
11. APPROVAL OF AGREEMENTS BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA, AND THE YMCA TO PROVIDE CHILD CARE SERVICES

Description
The Sarasota Family YMCA agrees to provide child care services in conformance with 65C-22, Florida Administrative Code, "Child Care Standards" at Ashton, Fruitville, Gocio, Gulf Gate, Oak Park, Phillippi Shores, Southside, Tuttle and Wilkinson.

Recommendation
That the agreements with Sarasota Family YMCA to provide child care services at Ashton, Fruitville, Gocio, Gulf Gate, Oak Park, Phillippi Shores, Southside, Tuttle and Wilkinson be approved as presented.

12. APPROVAL OF AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA, AND THE YMCA TO PROVIDE CHILD CARE SERVICES

Description
The Sarasota Family YMCA agrees to provide early morning child cares services for grades 6 though 8 at the McIntosh Middle School site from August 7, 2006 through the end of the 2008-09 school year, Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Recommendation
That the Board approve the agreement between the Sarasota County School Board and the Sarasota Family YMCA, Inc.

13. APPROVAL OF TRAINING PERSONNEL AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE SARASOTA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA

Description
The Sarasota County Technical Institute and the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office are hereby authorized to provide Basic Recruitment Training, and the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Trust Fund Advanced and Specialized Courses to students enrolled in the Sarasota County Justice Academy through the Sarasota County Technical Institute.

Recommendation

That the Training Personnel Agreement between the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, be approved.

14. APPROVAL OF COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT BETWEEN SARASOTA COUNTY TECHNICAL INSTITUTE, THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY AND CITY OF SARASOTA PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

Description

This is a cooperative agreement between Sarasota County Technical Institute, the School Board of Sarasota County and the City of Sarasota Public Works Department to provide the most cost effective and quality programs.  The following guidelines for program operation have been discussed and agreed upon for FY 2007.

Sarasota County Technical Institute agrees to provide the following:
An appropriate educational program for up to 20 students, suitable classroom space and equipment, qualified instructional personnel, ongoing TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) testing and test supplies and administration and supervision of educational programs and staff provided through the district.

Programs:  Adult Basic Education Classes   08/07/06 - 06/30/07
                 GED Preparation Classes           08/07/06 - 06/30/07

The City of Sarasota Public Works Department agrees to provide funds for the following:  Consumable supplies, instructor's salary and GED exam fees.

That the School Board approve the Cooperative Agreement between Sarasota County Technical Institute and City of Sarasota Public Works Department.

MATERIALS MANAGEMENT

15. APPROVAL TO AWARD BID #7001 FOR CARBONLESS PAPER AND SUPPLIES

Description
Bids to provide 'Carbonless Paper and Supplies' were received from three vendors on July 20, 2006.  The bid of Redd Paper Company was the best low bid meeting the advertised specifications.  This bid is for a period of one year with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods.  The funds for these purchases are contained in the general fund budget allocated to the Materials Management Department.

Recommendation
That the bid of Redd Paper Company, to provide 'Carbonless Paper and Supplies' in an amount not to exceed $35,000.00, be approved for award and purchase.

CONSTRUCTION

17. APPROVAL OF THE DELETION FOR DEMOLITION OF PORTABLES #99-014, #99-018, #99-020, #99-311, #99-438, #99-458, #99-459, #99-493, #99-530, #99-540, AND #99-545 AT ASHTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Description

The specified portables recommended for deletion have been inspected by Facilities Services and Construction Services staff and are deemed to no longer be economical to maintain or renovate.  These portables are currently being utilized for various purposes as outlined on the enclosure.  Funds for demolition are available in the capital projects account.



Recommendation
That the deletion of Portables #99-014, #99-018, #99-020, #99-311, #99-438, #99-458, #99-459, #99-493, #99-530, #99-540, and #99-545 at Ashton Elementary School from the F.I.S.H. inventory for demolition be approved as presented.

18. ACCEPTANCE OF SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION FOR OAK PARK SCHOOL - HVAC RENOVATION: PHASES 1 & 2

Description

These are two (2) of the thirteen (13) phases of the project to achieve completion.  The engineer has prepared the Certificate of Substantial Completion and the final punch list.  These phases are only a portion of the contract and are substantially complete in accordance with the contract documents.  A copy of the final punch list is available for review at the Construction Services Department.



Recommendation
That the work performed by Willis A. Smith Construction, Inc. for the Oak Park School - HVAC Renovation: Phases 1 & 2 be accepted as substantially complete as of 7/28/2006.

TRANSPORTATION

20. APPROVAL OF PHYSICIANS FOR SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR 2006-2007

Description
State of Florida requires all school bus drivers receive and pass a DOE physical, administered from a licensed physician in Sarasota County.

Recommendation
That the School Board name all licensed physicians practicing within Sarasota County, as approved physicians for the purpose of administering school bus driver physical exams.
21. APPROVAL OF 2006-2007 SCHOOL BUS SCHEDULES, ROUTES AND NON-TRANSPORTATION ZONES

Description
Transportation school bus routes and schedules have been advertised in the local newspapers, the School Board Transportation Web Site and are available at each school site.

Recommendation
That the bus schedules and routes be approved as presented and that the Transportation Department be authorized to make changes throughout the year as appropriate to meet changing requirements.
SCHOOL BOARD RULES

22. APPROVAL TO ADVERTISE REVISIONS TO SCHOOL BOARD POLICY 7.10, SCHOOL BUDGET SYSTEM

Description

It is recommended the indicated changes be made to bring this policy up-to-date with the latest legislative changes.
